Wondering which is the most popular Java application server and integrated development environment for writing Java applications? According to a recent study conducted by SDTimes, a division of BZ Media, Apache Tomcat and Eclipse are found to be the most popular application servers. Very little change year-on-year for enterprise Java developers was observed.

The top app server in the 2007 survey was Apache Tomcat, at 60.7 percent of respondents using it, followed by IBM WebSphere, at 36.5 percent, JBoss Application Server at 30.4percent, Oracle at 25.6percent; BEA WebLogic at 25.1 percent and Sun Java Enterprise System, at 20.7 percent.

As far as the IDEs are concerned, Eclipse is leading at 62.7 percent, followed by NetBeans, at 24.4 percent.
